## Definition

a common misspelling of the word 'the'. People often use it on purpose in online jokes or gaming to sound silly or casual.

For teachers: a deliberate or accidental misspelling of the definite article 'the', originating from common typing errors. Frequently used in internet slang to signal irony, mock incompetence, or indicate a specific online subculture.

## Examples

- I think teh cat is hungry again.
- In early internet gaming culture, players would often type 'teh' instead of 'the' to show they were typing too fast to care about spelling.
- While originally a simple typographical error, 'teh' evolved into a stylistic marker used to modify nouns with a sense of exaggerated emphasis or ironic grandeur.

## Pitfalls

- Not "He is teh best." but "He is the best." — Outside of specific informal internet contexts or memes, 'teh' is considered a spelling error and should not be used in standard writing.

## Usage notes

- Functions as a definite article; typically precedes a noun or adjective.
