## Definition

a record that shows the exact date and time when something happened. You see it on messages, files, and videos to know when they were made.

For teachers: a recorded date and time indicating when an event occurred or data was created or modified. It is often attached automatically to digital files, messages, or transactions to establish sequence and authenticity.

## Examples

- Each photo shows a timestamp at the bottom.
- The chat app displays a timestamp under every message so you know exactly when it arrived.
- Investigators relied on server timestamps to reconstruct the sequence of logins that preceded the security breach.
