## Definition

a very old way to say 'until'. You might see it in very old books or poems, but it is not used in modern English.

For teachers: a now-archaic conjunction used to indicate a point in time up to which an action continues. Replaced by 'until' in modern standard English.

## Examples

- He worked hard untill the sun went down.
- The old manuscript describes how the soldiers marched untill they reached the river's edge.
- In the archaic text, the protagonist remains loyal to his king untill the very moment of his execution, a detail that modern readers might find particularly moving.
