## Definition

an image or clip created for a movie or video using computers and special tools. You use these to show things that are impossible or too expensive to film in real life.

For teachers: an image or sequence of images created, manipulated, or enhanced digitally for film, television, or video production. Often distinguished from special effects, which are created physically on set during filming.

## Examples

- The dragon in the movie is a digital visual effect.
- Modern blockbusters rely heavily on visual effects to create believable alien worlds that would be impossible to build as physical sets.
- The seamless integration of a computer-generated monster with the physical environment represents a significant milestone in the evolution of cinema visual effects.
