## Definition

a room where people sit and wait for an appointment, such as at a doctor's office or a dentist.

For teachers: a room provided for people to wait in before an appointment or meeting.

## Examples

- The doctor is busy, so please wait in the waiting room.
- Patients sat quietly in the waiting room, reading magazines while they waited for their names to be called.
- The sterile, fluorescent-lit waiting room felt interminable, filled with the low hum of a television and the anxious shuffling of those awaiting news.
