## Definition

the short way to say 'was not'. You use it to say that something was not true in the past.

For teachers: the contracted form of 'was not'. Used to express a negative state or action in the past tense.

- I wasn't at home when you called.
- The weather wasn't as bad as we expected, so we decided to go for a walk anyway.
