## Definition

something that is extremely impressive or high quality, especially a goal in a football match. You use this word when you see someone do something amazing that seems almost impossible.

For teachers: an exceptional or world-class performance, achievement, or occurrence, most commonly used in British English to describe a spectacular goal in football. Informal in register; often used as a superlative in sports commentary.

## Examples

- He scored an absolute worldie in the final minute.
- The goalkeeper had no chance of stopping that shot; it was a total worldie from thirty yards out.
- While the striker is known for his consistency, that overhead kick was a genuine worldie that will be replayed for decades to come.

## Usage notes

- Commonly preceded by the intensifier 'absolute' in British sports slang.
