00 / Overview

TOEFL iBT

TOEFL iBT tests academic English for study abroad. It covers reading, listening, speaking and writing.

01 / Purpose

TOEFL iBT measures whether a candidate can follow a university course in English. The tasks use lectures, academic readings, spoken answers and essays.

02 / Examination body

ETS, the Educational Testing Service, is a non-profit organisation based in the United States. ETS writes the test, sets the scores and issues results.

03 / Levels and scores

Scores come as a 0–120 total, with a 1–6 scale alongside it since 21 January 2026. Older results used the 0–120 total alone.
