first recorded 21st c.
Originally from the 2024 studio album Brat, the phrase references the remix version of the song "Girl, So Confusing" by the English singer Charli XCX. The original recording concerned the artist's strained relationship with another female musician, an arrangement that prompted significant speculation among listeners and critics.
The subject of the song was widely believed to be the New Zealand singer Lorde. A subsequent remix featured a guest verse by Lorde herself, which included the lines: “Well, honestly, I was speechless / When I woke up to your voice note / You told me how you'd been feeling / Let's work it out on the remix”. The lyrics transformed a private reconciliation into a public creative collaboration.
