SIMPLE

I am going to buy a new phone.

CONTEXTUAL

It's getting dark, so I am going to turn on the lights.

COMPLEX

Despite the recent market downturn, the company is going to proceed with its ambitious expansion plans, confident in its long-term strategy.

Usage

The verb 'be' changes to match the subject (am, is, are) and is followed by 'going to' and a base verb.

Teaching tip

Contrast 'going to' for pre-existing plans with 'will' for spontaneous decisions made at the moment of speaking.

Pitfall

He going to study.He is going to study.The verb 'be' must be included and must agree with the subject (I am, you are, he is).
