Teaching tip

contrast with 'check into' (the arrival process); note that 'check out' can also mean to look at something interesting, but 'check out of' is almost exclusively for leaving a place.

Pitfall

I checked out the hotel at 10 AM.I checked out of the hotel at 10 AM.without 'of', the phrase means you inspected the hotel rather than left it after a stay.
