SIMPLE

CONTEXTUAL

There is no doubt that the new policy will cause some confusion among the staff.

Usage

often placed at the beginning of a sentence or after the first auxiliary verb.

Teaching tip

contrast with 'without a doubt' (which expresses 100% certainty) and 'doubtless' (which can sound more formal or slightly more speculative).

Pitfall

No doubt that he is coming.No doubt he is coming.while 'there is no doubt that' is correct, the shorter phrase 'no doubt' usually acts as an adverb and does not require 'that'.
