v. to come to light or become known after some time. It is often used when a secret or a hidden detail is finally discovered.

v. to become known or be revealed, especially after a period of secrecy or obscurity. Often used with a dummy 'it' subject followed by a 'that' clause.


SIMPLE

It later transpired that he had lied about his age.

CONTEXTUAL

During the investigation, it transpired that the company had been aware of the safety risks for months.

COMPLEX

Although the initial reports were vague, it eventually transpired that the two parties had reached a private settlement long before the trial was scheduled to begin.

Synonyms
Usage

Often used in the construction 'it transpired that...'. In formal contexts, it can also mean 'to happen or occur', though some style guides discourage this usage.
