v. to reach a final decision or finish a task after thinking about all the facts. You use this when you have completed a piece of work or a long meeting.

v. to bring something to an end or to arrive at a judgment based on reasoning. Transitive when followed by a direct object or a 'that' clause; intransitive when describing an event coming to a close.


SIMPLE

The meeting concluded at five o'clock.

CONTEXTUAL

After reviewing all the evidence, the investigators concluded that the fire was an accident.

COMPLEX

The symphony concluded with a triumphant brass fanfare that left the audience in stunned silence for several seconds before the applause began.

Synonyms
Usage

Often followed by a 'that' clause or the preposition 'with' to indicate the final element of an event.

Pitfall

The movie was concluded.The movie concluded.When an event ends naturally, use the active voice; 'was concluded' implies an external agent intentionally stopped it.
