Anglo-Latin vocabulary

Everyday English leans Germanic — get, put, house, work. But the moment English turns formal, academic, or professional, it reaches for Latin. This is why the "hard" words in English are often the easy ones for your students.

To a Spanish speaker, that list barely registers as foreign. A native English child meets these words later and finds them difficult — your students have the usual difficulty curve reversed, and that is a resource worth exploiting when you choose reading texts.
